Mulford Earns ECAC Division I Player of the Week Honors
Sophomore setter leads Patriot League in assists

Mulford has been named to two all-tournament teams this fall.

WASHINGTON — Earning her second honor of the week, American University sophomore setter Courtney Mulford, this week's Patriot League Player of the Week, was named the ECAC Division I Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 23.

Mulford has been a solid base for the Eagle offense this fall, putting up a career-high 59 assists in a 3-2 win over Duke and garnering a pair of all-tournament nods at the Ramada Inn Invitational and the American Volleyball Classic.

This past weekend, the six-foot, San Diego native had 36 assists, 10 digs and eight kills in 3-0 sweep of Yale Friday night. In the American Volleyball Classic championship match, against No. 3 Florida, Mulford dished out 20 assists, two digs and two kills in the loss. Earlier in the week, she dished out 26 assists and had six kills in a 3-0 win over Morgan State.

She leads the Patriot League in assists with 451 in 40 games for an average of 11.27 per game. The setter is third in the league in service aces with 20.

The Eagles, ranked fourth in the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Poll this week, host Holy Cross on Friday night at 7 p.m. in their first Patriot League match.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, recently completed its inaugural year of membership in the Patriot League. The University had an extremely successful year to date on respective fields of play, capturing league championships in men’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis, and regular-season titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse.
