AU's Kucerkova strong with 18 kills, 10 digs

WASHINGTON -- Facing the possibility of losing its first Patriot League game in its first try of the 2002 season, the American University volleyball team fought back with a 30-28 win and an eventual 3-0 victory over Holy Cross Friday night at Bender Arena. The Eagles keep their perfect record in the Patriot League of 17-0 as they clinched by scores of 30-28, 30-13, 30-27, improving to 9-6 on the season and 1-0 in league action.
Junior Karla Kucerkova registered a double-double with 18 kills and 10 digs for AU while sophomore Courtney Mulford put up a game-high 37 assists.
Senior Judit Szekelyhidi and sophomore Cathy Fluegeman were solid with 11 kills each and junior libero Natalie Hand pitched in with 13 digs.
For Holy Cross (4-9), Katie Mulvihill led with 10 kills and Caitlin Agostinacchio had 23 assists.
The Eagles are in action again Saturday when they host Army at 7 p.m.
