Kucerkova
Named PL Player of the Week

For the second week in a row, senior Karla
Kucerkova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/Brno) has been named the Baden
Player of the Week. This marks her seventh career honor, and her second
for the season. In the four-game win against Holy Cross, Kucerkova led the team with 27 kills, 24 digs and a block assist. Against the Army Black Knights, she was able to once again carry the team with half of the total team kills (21). She also led the team in attempts (37), and points (23). Kucerkova leads the Patriot League in kills (273) and total points (302.0). She also carries one of the highest attack percentages at .276. Kucerkova is the first American University athlete to be named the Verizon Academic All-American Player of the Year, and is the first volleyball player to receive the Patriot League Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. She is also the first American University athlete to be named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year (2001) and the Patriot League Player of the Year (2001). American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, is in its third year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball, and a regular-season title in men’s basketball.
