AU Volleyball Shuts out Army 3-1
Eagles run Patriot League streak to 38 straight matches

WASHINGTON- The AU Eagles were able to continue their Patriot League winning streak to 38 as they were able to defeat the Army Black Knights 3-1. AU was once again led by senior Karla Kucerkova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/Brno) who posted 30 kills for the day.

The Black Knights started the night strong, taking the first game 30-26, but the Eagles were able to quickly bounce back and take the lead early in game two. With junior Sabrina Vasconcelos (Fortalezza, Brazil/Colegio Christus) serving for five points with one ace mixed in, the Eagles defeated the Black Knights 30-14. During game two the Eagles posted a .621 hitting percentage, while Army posted .207.

As the match continued into game three, the Eagles once again were able to dominate, winning 30-17. The game was highlighted by junior Natasha Cornaz (Lausanne, Switerland/Gymnase August Piccard) as she served for seven points in a row, including one of her three total service ace’s. Cumulatively this week, Cornaz has totaled ten service aces, seven of them against Holy Cross.

During game three, the Eagles were challenged by the Black Knights, as Army was able to keep within points of the lead. As match point was on the horizon, Army took the lead at one point, but only for the Eagles to rally back and win the game 30-27. This win marks the Eagles 12th win in a row, and will keep them undefeated in the Patriot League.

The Eagles will next face Temple, on Nov. 5 in Philadelphia at 7 p.m.
