Former
AU Standout Klimova Named Head Coach at NJIT
Makes transition from assistant position at Wagner

WASHINGTON
— Former American University standout Pavlina Klimova was recently
hired as the first full-time head volleyball coach of the New Jersey Institute
of Technology. This is Klimova’s first head coaching position.
“It’s exciting,” said Klimova. “I’ve enjoyed
the interaction with the kids, I want to teach them something.”
Klimova comes over from Wagner College, where she served as a graduate
assistant and fitness center coordinator the past two years. This past
spring she earned an MBA in marketing from Wagner.
The former captain for AU volleyball coach Barry
Goldberg was a four-time Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Scholar-Athlete,
graduating with a degree in business in 2000. Klimova earned a spot on
the All-CAA Tournament Team as a senior and ranks among American’s
all-time top 10 in digs per game in a single season.
A native of the Czech Republic, Klimova was a member of the junior national
team where her team, KP Brno, captured a pair of national championships.
American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics
program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, recently completed
its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the
Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s
cross country, women’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, men’s
soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis
and women’s volleyball, and a regular-season title in men’s
basketball.
