American Volleyball Claims First Win of Season
Kucerkova leads way with 29 kills

Karla Kucerkova paced the Eagles with 29 kills and 19 digs in AU's win over Rutgers.

GAINESVILLE, Fl. -- The American University won its first match of the season when they defeated Rutgers in the final match of the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational. The scores were 34-32, 25-30, 30-26, 27-30 and 15-11.

Senior Karla Kucerkova (Olomouc, Czech./Republic/Brno) was brilliant, collecting 29 kills and registering a .375 attack percentage. She also dished out four service aces and had a team-high 19 digs and was also named to the all-tournament team. For the second time this season sophomore Cutrina Biddulph (Reseda, Calif./Granada Hillls) also was tremendous. She collected 17 kills, and nine defensive digs.

Junior setter Sabrina Vasconcelos (Fortaleza, Brazil/Colegio Christus) had her best outing of the season with 36 sets and eight digs. Junior Erin Allgaier (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) had eight kills, five digs and four aces while Natacha Cornaz (Lausanne, Switzerland/Gymnase Auguste Piccard) had nine kills and one service ace.

AU will next compete on Friday, September 5 against Akron University in the first round of the Akron Tournament.
