Worcester, Mass. -- American earned its first Patriot League win of the season tonight when they defeated Holy Cross, 3-0, in the league opener for both squads. The team had 56 total kills and 8.5 team blocks as they moved past the Crusaders with game scores of 30-17, 30-26, and 30-23.
Sophomore Sabrina Vasconcelos (Fortalezza, Brazil/Colegio Christus) led the Eagles with 51 assists in the match while senior Enieida Muzhaqi (Elbasan, Albania/Qwmal Stafa) and sophomore Karla Kucerkova (Olomovc, Czech Republic/Brno) each recorded a game-high 12 kills. Freshman Natacha Cornaz (Lausanne, Switzerland/Gymnase Auguste Piccard) and Daria Bobko (Moscow, Russia/S.W. School #783) also added 10 kills each for American in the victory.
American moves to 6-2 overall (1-0 Patriot League). They will be back in action tomorrow night at West Point for their second straight Patriot League match against Army at 7:00 p.m.
