American Volleyball Continues Strong Play, Beats Loyola, 3-0
Eagles have now won nine straight games

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- American continued its strong play as it defeated Loyola, 3-0, here in Bender Arena on Tuesday evening in its home opener. Game scores were 30-27, 30-25, and 30-21. The Eagles have now won nine straight games going back to their match with Holy Cross last Friday.

Patriot League Rookie of the Week Sabrina Vasconcelos (Fortalezza, Brazil/Colegio Christus) finished with 41 assists and six kills while freshman reserve Courtney Mulford (San Diego, Calif./La Costa) made a big impression with four assists and two service aces.

Karla Kucerkova (Olomovc, Czech Republic/Brno) continued the play that earned her Patriot League Player of the Week honors, notching 18 kills and a .378 hitting percentage.

Loyola (1-11) showed a lot of grit, and was in the match throughout. Mary Hamsher led the Greyhounds with 11 kills and 11 digs.

With the win, American University upped its season record to 8-2 overall, while remaining at 2-0 in Patriot League play.

The Eagles return to league action for a weekend series against Bucknell and Colgate. American faces Bucknell on Friday, Sept. 28, and then hosts Colgate on Saturday, Sept. 30. Both matches are slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
