Eagle Volleyball Extends Streak to Five
American sweeps Colgate for 4-0 league mark

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Three Eagles finished with 10 or more kills as American extended its winning streak to five with a 3-0 win over Patriot League foe Colgate on Saturday at Bender Arena. Scores of the match were 30-24, 30-24, 30-20.

With the win, the Patriot League preseason favorite Eagles improve to 10-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in league competition.

Senior Eneida Muzhaqi (Elbasan, Albania/Qwmal Stafa) led all American attackers with 11 kills. Patriot League Player of the Week Karla Kucerkova (Olomovc, Czech Republic/Brno) and junior Judit Szekelyhidi (Ujszentivan, Hungary/Szegedian Club) each picked up 10 kills of their own.

Sophomore setter Sabrina Vasconcelos (Fortalezza, Brazil/Colegio Christus), who was voted the league’s rookie of the week, continued her stellar play with 40 assists while freshman Natacha Cornaz (Lausanne, Switzerland/Gymnase Auguste Piccard) had a team-high eight digs.

Colgate lost its second straight road match after a 3-1 loss to Navy on Friday and fall to 7-10 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League.

American returns to its home floor to host Lehigh on Oct. 5 at 7:00 p.m.
