Stats | September 9, 2001 LAS VEGAS, NEV. -- American concluded its tour of the west with a 3-0 loss to second-ranked Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon here. The 49'ers swept the Eagles, 30-16, 30-16, and 30-14. American dropped to 5-2 on the season with the loss after placing second in the UNLV Invitational over the weekend. Natacha Cornaz led American with seven kills and two digs, while Natalie Hand recorded six digs for the Eagles. Sabrina Vasconcelos paced the offensive attack with 20 assists. Long Beach was led by Tayyiba Haneef who recorded 20 kills and four digs. Cheryl Weaver added 14 kills, seven digs, and four blocks in the victory. The 49'ers had an efficient offensive attack, hitting .519 for the match. They also tallied 20 blocks on the afternoon. After a cross-country flight early Monday morning, American returns home to host Morgan State on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 7:00 p.m. in Bender Arena in its first home match of the 2001 season.
