Eagles lose
ninth straight; finish season at GMU on Saturday
The Dukes (18-8, 11-4 CAA) used a 10-0 run to pull away, 47-35, with 7:33 left, after both teams traded buckets to start the second half. An Allyson Keener lay-up with 1:38 left gave JMU its biggest lead of the game, 62-45, and the Dukes hit four of five free-throws to finish the game. James Madison forced 25 American turnovers and held a 45-35 rebounding advantage over the Eagles (4-22, 2-13 CAA). Danielle Johnson led the Eagles with 15 points and six rebounds while Kaitlin Schuyler chipped in 10 points and a game-high eight assists. Hollie Steinman recorded seven points along with five rebounds and six blocks. Senior Jina Lewis contributed six points and six rebounds, and senior Jamie Dowd added four points and two rebounds, both in the final game of their career at Bender Arena. Morgan led James Madison with game-highs of 17 points and nine rebounds while Stacey Todd added 11 points and seven rebounds. Shanna Price sparked the Dukes with 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Schuyler's seven first-half points propelled AU to their largest lead of the game, 18-12, with 7:06 left. However, JMU pulled within one at the break, 26-25, following a Todd lay-up at the buzzer. JMU nexts hosts East
Carolina on Feb. 2 in its final regular-season game while American travels
to George Mason on Sat., Feb. 3 to conclude its season. The Eagles will
not compete in the CAA Championships as they make their transition into
the Patriot League.
