Earns Patriot League Women’s Basketball Preseason Nod

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Senior Hollie
Steinman (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic), who led the Eagles and was third
in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in rebounding last season,
was named to the All-Patriot League Women’s Basketball Preseason
Team on Wednesday as announced by the league office.
One of four returning players for the Eagles this season, Steinman averaged 8.4 points and 7.6 rebounds in the school’s final year of competition in the CAA last season. She was also second in the conference in blocks, notching 1.74 swats per game, while moving her way up to fourth on the school’s career blocks list (77).
Also announced by the Patriot League was the preseason poll, in which American was picked to finish fourth in its inaugural year in the league among the eight member institutions. Holy Cross, the three-time defending league champ and the winner of eight conference titles in the 11 years of the Patriot League’s existence, was again the preseason favorite with 13 first place votes.
The vote was conducted among coaches and sports information directors at each of the eight member institutions with American ousting last year’s league champion Bucknell with 10 first-place votes to two.
The Eagles open their
season on Nov. 16-17 by hosting the third annual AU Tip-Off Classic at
Bender Arena. AU faces off against Marshall at 7:00 p.m. following a 5:00
p.m. matchup between South Carolina State and Southern.
American University became a full member of the Patriot League on July
1 after competing in the Colonial Athletic Association since the 1985-86
academic year.
American University, founded in 1893, fields a 19-sport NCAA Division
I athletics program, featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men.
