American Women Lose Grip on Lehigh
Eagles let 11-point lead slip and fall, 68-60, to Mountain Hawks

Senior Hollie Steinman recorded 17 points, six boards and a block but it was not enough to get past Lehigh.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Anne Tierney's double-double (22 points, 11 rebounds) helped the Mountain Hawks overcome an 11-point second half deficit as Lehigh defeated American 68-60 on Wednesday in Stabler Arena.

Tierney, a junior, broke the all-time rebounding record at Lehigh (289) in the first half and now sits alone atop the category with 795 career boards.

Lehigh (8-10, 4-1 PL) jumped out to a 9-5 lead, before the American (7-10, 2-3 PL) began to apply their full-court trap. The Eagles' pressure created a number of Lehigh turnovers, and they built a 33-28 advantage at the half, thanks in part to 11 first half points and five first half boards for freshman Chanel Hunt. Senior Hollie Steinman poured in 10 in the first stanza for the Eagles as well.

American ran out to an 11-point lead early in the second half, before Lehigh began its rally. Freshman Jessica DePalo (11 points, nine rebounds) and sophomore Jana Ransom (seven points, five boards) came off the bench and sparked the Mountain Haw rally. Carli Toliver, drained four from long range, and finished with 17 points for Lehigh.

The Eagles were led by 17 points from Steinman, Hunt's career-high 15 points and 13 off the bench from Katryn Costenbader. American shot 42 percent to Lehigh’s 39, and the Eagles had fewer turnovers than Lehigh, but the Mountain Hawks sank 22 free throws, including 15 in the second half, to seal the come-from-behind victory.

American heads to Holy Cross on Saturday to face the four-time defending Patriot League champion Crusaders at 1:00.
