Too Much As American Falls, 78-56 December 11, 2001
It was the final pre-holiday game for the Eagles, who do not play again until Dec. 29-30, at the Loyola Holiday Tournament. American (5-4) was in control of the early portion of the game, holding a 12-8 advantage with 12:48 to play in the first half. Georgetown (6-2) answered quickly though, on the strength of a 20-4 run, to take a 28-16 lead with 3:41 remaining in the half. Leading 31-20 at the half, the Hoyas came out of the lockerroom rolling, and used a 18-3 spurt to take a commanding 49-25 lead with 12:56 left in the game. Georgetown shot an incredible 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the floor in the second half, including six-of-11 from three-point range. American was led by Chanel Hunt and Chanel Spriggs, who each netted 11 points. Spriggs added a career-high 10 rebounds, while Maria Werries also scored 10 points and had four steals for the Eagles. Nok Duany and Rebekkah Brunson each scored 13 for the Hoyas, who now lead the all-time series with the cross-town Eagles, 17-5. Following the holiday break, American will face Loyola in the opening round of the Loyola (Md.) Holiday Tournament. Gametime is set for 1:00 p.m. in the Greyhounds' Reitz Arena.
