Women Get Revenge, Down Army 76-66 February 6, 2002
The Eagles led by 10, 36-26, at the half behind Katryn Costenbader's 13-point outburst. But after the break Army (8-14, 3-5 PL) countered with Katie Macfarlane's 20 second half points, including a pair of free throws that tied the game at 66-66 with 1:44 to play. Back-to-back layups by Chanel Spriggs and Kaitlin Schuyler gave American a four-point cushion before Hunt's jumper gave the team some breathing room with half a minute to play. Hunt and Jenyce Woodruff each connected on one shot from the charity stripe before Spriggs managed a steal and a breakaway layup with eight seconds left for the final 76-66 margin. The Eagles recorded a season-low nine turnovers on the night while Army committed 26 in the team's fourth-straight loss. Costenbader finished with 18 points and senior Hollie Steinman recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Army was led by Macfarlane's 23 points and 16 rebounds, while teammates Christine Gassman (17) and Amy Saal (10) also finished in double figures. American looks to extend its winning streak to four-straight with a trip to Easton, Pa., on Saturday to face the Leopards of Lafayette College. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. and will be followed by the men's contest.
