Hunt Tabbed As Patriot League Player of the Week
AU sophomore leads Eagles to wins over Rider and Bucknell

Chanel Hunt earned Patriot League Player of the Week honors after leading the Eagles to two wins.

WASHINGTON — After leading the American University women’s basketball team to a comeback win on Saturday at Bucknell, sophomore Chanel Hunt (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) was named the Patriot League’s Player of the Week. The AU forward earns the honor for the first time in her career after the Eagles went 2-0 last week and Hunt averaged 19.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in the two contests.

In American’s 80-68 win at Rider, Hunt led the squad with 15 points and posted her fourth double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. She also had four steals and two blocks against the Broncs.

At Bucknell, Hunt led the Eagles in the second half, scoring 21 of her 23 points as AU claimed a 75-74 victory. Hunt shot five-for-seven from the floor and 11-for-11 from the free throw line after halftime to help the Eagles comeback from a double-digit first half deficit. She also had seven steals and four assists against the Bison. Hunt’s 11-for-12 performance from the free throw line ranks as the fifth best in a game ever at American. Her seven steals place her sixth all-time for steals in a game at AU.

Hunt currently leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 13.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. She is second in the Patriot League in rebounding and seventh in scoring. Hunt is shooting 53.8 percent from the field this season which has her ninth all-time at American. Her 50.7 career field goal percentage ranks seventh all-time.

American’s next game is Tuesday in Bender Arena as the Eagles host Navy in the second Patriot League game of the season. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
