Knock Off Towson, 58-46 December 4, 2002
Towson opened the game with a 5-0 run before Werries hit a three-pointer just over two minutes into the game to spark an 20-3 AU streak. Towson was able to fight back into the game and close the Eagle lead to three thanks to a 11-2 run of their own with six points scored by Kelli Talbot. American was able to get back to a nine point advantage by holding the Tigers scoreless over the final 2:24 of the first half. The Eagles were able to build their first half lead thanks to 51.7 percent shooting including 75 percent from the three-point line. AU held Towson to 30 percent shooting in the first half. AU was never seriously threatened in the second half, building a lead as large as 15 points. Jyva Jones cut the American lead to nine with just over two minutes remaining, but a lay-up by Katryn Costenbader returned the lead to double digits and the Eagles held on for the victory. American played strong defense, holding the Tigers to only 26.7 percent shooting for the game and 18.8 percent from the three-point line. AU also outrebounded Towson 45-41. The Eagles continue
their homestand on Saturday as American hosts Eastern Michigan in the
AU Tip-Off Classic at 3 p.m. in Bender Arena.
