HAMILTON, N.Y. — Four American University women's basketball players scored 14 points to help American (15-10, 8-4 PL) defeat Colgate (8-16, 3-9 PL), 71-64. Joanna Barnes, Chanel Hunt, Kaitlin Schuyler and Chanel Spriggs all scored 14 points while Hunt posted her second consecutive double-double by grabbing 11 rebounds.

After an early tie at six, Spriggs netted six straight points to help the Eagles to a four-point advantage. A traditional three-point play by Hunt stretched the AU lead to 17-12, but the Raiders went on a 8-0 run capped by a free throw from Chigozie Ozor to claim the lead at 20-17.

Schuyler drove to the basket to give AU a 23-22 lead, but consecutive baskets by Leandra Fuller and Megan Ballard helped Colgate build a four-point lead. The Eagles fought back and jumper by Schuyler knotted the game again at 29. The Raiders got the final three points of the half from the free-throw line to take a 32-29 halftime advantage.

Colgate used two three-pointers to open a 41-35 advantage early in the second half, but Schuyler answered with five straight points to cut the lead to one. After the Raiders stretched the lead back to six, Schuyler drained another three-pointer for the Eagles. Kim Salem made a layup to close AU within two at 47-45.

The Colgate three-point attack continued as Ballard made yet another three for the Raiders to give them a seven-point lead. A Hunt offensive rebound and layup closed the Eagles back within five with eight minutes to play. Four consecutive points by Barnes brought the Eagles within two with just over five minutes remaining.

Spriggs gave AU a 59-58 lead with 3:37 remaining off a baseline jumper. Colgate recalimed the lead on four points from Malissa Burke. AU stormed back as two free throws by Spriggs gave AU the lead for good with 1:52 remaining. The Eagles were solid from the free-throw line down the stretch, going nine-for-10 in the final five minutes to win the game.

Salem had a career-high nine points for the Eagles and she also grabbed a season-best five boards as AU dominated the glass, outrebounding Colgate, 41-28. AU shot 46.7 percent from the floor in the contest.
