WASHINGTON -- After one of the most successful regular seasons in school history, the American University women’s basketball team (17-10, 10-4 PL) enters the Patriot League Tournament as the No. 2 seed. AU will face No. 7 Colgate (9-17, 4-10 PL) in the first round after sweeping the Raiders last season. This is a rematch of last year’s quarterfinal match when Colgate defeated the Eagles, 79-68. The Patriot League Tournament is held at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md (directions).

THE OPPONENT AND THE HISTORY: The Eagles hold a 4-1 advantage over Colgate all-time. American has won all four regular season meetings between the schools including a sweep of the two games this season. The Raiders’ lone win came at the Show Place Arena last year in the Patriot League Quarterfinals.

HAVEN’T WE BEEN HERE BEFORE?: It may be 2003, but it feels like 2002 at the Show Place Arena. The pairings for the quarterfinals are exactly the same as last year’s tournament. Holy Cross, the No. 1 seed will play No. 8 seed Lafayette yet again. American moved up to the No. 2 seed this year, but will still have a rematch with No. 7 Colgate. The 3-6 game is a replay from last year with Lehigh playing Army while No. 4 Bucknell takes on No. 5 Navy after playing as the No. 2 and No. 7 seed in 2002.

HUNT EARNS ALL-PATRIOT LEAGUE HONORS: Sophomore Chanel Hunt (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) was honored by the Patriot League by earning a spot on the All-Patriot League Second-Team. The lone member of the squad off of American University’s women’s basketball team, Hunt adds this award to her All-Rookie honor from a year ago.

A 6-0 forward, Hunt led the Eagles in scoring with 14.4 points per game while also leading the squad in rebounding with 7.3 boards per contest. She also added six double-doubles and grabbed 79 steals on the season, good for fourth-most all-time at AU. Hunt earned AU Tip-Off Classic MVP honors after posting 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds against Eastern Michigan and also scoring 16 points against Maryland-Eastern Shore.

AMERICAN vs. THE PATRIOT LEAGUE: The Eagles have played 61 games all-time against the seven fellow members of the Patriot League, and are 41-20 (.672) in those contests. This is American’s second season of competition as a member of the Patriot League.
