WASHINGTON -- AU won its first Patriot League Tournament game in school history and first conference tournament game since the 1997-98 season on Friday. Now, the Eagles hope to advance to the Patriot League Championship but Army stands in AU’s way. The teams split the season series with each team winning on their home court. The Patriot League Tournament is held at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md (directions).

THE OPPONENT AND THE HISTORY: The Eagles hold a 4-2 advantage over Army all-time. The teams split this season with Army winning 71-56 in West Point and AU winning 64-50 in Bender Arena. The Eagles and Black Knights also split last season. One of AU’s biggest wins all-time was a 79-39 win over Army in 1996.

THE CHANELS ARE DOUBLE TROUBLE: Junior Chanel Spriggs and sophomore Chanel Hunt became the first Eagle teammates to crack the all-time top-10 in steals in a season at American. Spriggs, who owns the school record, is currently second all time at 105. Hunt broke onto the chart against Lehigh and is fourth all-time with 81. The duo have helped AU to 14th in the country in steals with 12.9 per game.

THREE-POINT POSSIBLITIES : Even though the Eagles are only making 25.4 percent of their shots from behind the arc, a trip down the court has often produced three points for AU. Currently, American has converted 31 old-fashioned three-point plays on 46 attempts [.674]. Chanel Hunt has been sent to the line 18 times with the opportunity for a three-point play and converted 14 of the chances.

DUSTING OFF THE RECORD BOOK: As the 2002-03 season continues, a number of AU records are within striking distance. After setting the school record in steals last season, Chanel Spriggs is currently sixth all-time in career steals and needs three more to move into fourth. Chanel Hunt currently owns the sixth-best career field goal percentage [.507] and her percentage from the floor this season [.521] is ninth all-time in single-season field goal percentage. Hunt is also fourth all-time in single-season steals, needing only three more to tie for third. Kaitlin Schuyler moved into eighth on the career assits chart with 219. Schuyler, Katryn Costenbader and Maria Werries are on the career three-point charts in percentage as well as three-pointers made and attempted. Costenbader needs only one more three-pointer to become the third AU woman all-time to drain 100 treys. Werries is second all-time in three-pointers made and attempted and also is seventh all-time in games started with 88.
