Women’s Lacrosse Recruit Earns All-Met Honors
Future Eagle Among Washington Post’s Top Area Players

June 29, 2001

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- American University women’s lacrosse recruit, and recent South River High School graduate, Raina Edelstein, wrapped up her stellar high school career with All-Met First-Team honors from the Washington Post in girls’ lacrosse.

A team captain and All-Anne Arundel County selection on defense for South River High School in Edgewater, Md., this spring, Edelstein helped the Seahawks to the Maryland 3A/2A title game while also anchoring a defense that allowed just 6.7 goals per game.

Edelstein was named to the Capital Gazette All-County First Team and was a Second-Team All-County selection by The Baltimore Sun.

A dual-sport athlete at South River, Edelstein was also named an All-County First-Team defender by The Sun in field hockey last fall as she helped her school to an overall season record of 15-3-2 and its first-ever state championship.

All-Met selections are made by Washington Post scholastic sports writers based on the nominations of coaches at more than 250 Washington-area schools.

American University, founded in 1893, fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program, featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men. American will become a full member of the Patriot League with the start of the coming 2001-02 academic calendar.
