American Women Earn Two Patriot League Lacrosse Awards
Randisi and Riitano earn weekly honors

Laura Randisi was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after saving 28 shots in two games.

WASHINGTON — American University’s women’s lacrosse team was honored for the second time this season by the Patriot League on Monday as sophomore Laura Randisi (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and freshman Gina Riitano (Schenectady, N.Y./Albany Academy for Girls) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week.

Randisi had an impressive week in goal for the Eagles with 19 saves against No. 18 Johns Hopkins and nine saves in a victory over Patriot League foe Bucknell. She posted a .622 save percentage for the week to raise her season save percentage to .500. Randisi also had two ground balls against Johns Hopkins and three against Bucknell. She now posts a 5.50 goals against average in league play.

Riitano also had an excellent week for American. Against Johns Hopkins, she scored her first goal of her collegiate career and also gathered three ground balls and two draw controls. Against Bucknell, Riitano exploded with a game-high four goals to lead the Eagles to the 9-5 victory. She is currently tied for second on the team in scoring with six points and leads the team in draw controls with 11.

American is currently 3-3 overall and in first place in the Patriot League at 2-0. The Eagles’ next game is on Tuesday against Denver. They travel to Colgate on March 23 for their third Patriot League matchup of the season.
