American Women’s Lacrosse Wins First Patriot League Game
Nadia Harmsen leads Eagles with four goals

Nadia Harmsen notched four goals and added an assist in the Eagles victory over Holy Cross on Saturday.

WASHINGTON — The American University women’s lacrosse team opened up Patriot League play today with a 10-6 victory over Holy Cross. The win snaps a two-game losing streak and moves the Eagles to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in Patriot League play. Holy Cross drops to 2-3 for the year and 0-1 in the league.

American dominated the first half, jumping out to an 8-0 lead. American scored four goals in the first ten minutes of action. Nadia Harmsen (Buzzards Bay, Mass./Bay Shore) had three of her game-high four goals in the first half and she also assisted on a Lindsay Cartin (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) goal. Holy Cross scored two goals to close the half as the Eagles took an 8-2 advantage at the break.

The Crusaders struck first in the second half, but Harmsen answered with her fourth goal of the game just four minutes later. Holy Cross was able to cut the Eagle lead to 9-6 behind two goals by Taylor Connolly, however they could not get any closer. Jamie Crean (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) scored her first goal of the season to close the scoring for the game.

American’s next game is Wednesday, March 13 at Johns Hopkins. The next game for the Eagles in the Patriot League is on March 16 at Bucknell.
