AU Women’s Lacrosse Places 16 on Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
PL Champions lead the way in the classroom

Robyn Mincher was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

WASHINGTON — The Patriot League Champion American University women’s lacrosse team had 16 members selected to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the spring of 2003 as announced today by Patriot League Executive Director, Carolyn Schlie Femovich. AU tied with Bucknell for the most student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average (GPA) in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the six winter and nine spring League-sponsored championship sports. AU had 16 of the 21 student-athletes on its roster make the Academic Honor Roll this year.

Seniors Jamie Crean (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) and Robyn Mincher (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) earned spots on the Academic Honor Roll in their final semesters at AU. Crean posted a 3.90 GPA in health promotion while Mincher, a two-time All-Patriot League First Team selection, had a 3.50 in journalism.

Juniors Courtney Bennett (McLean, Va./McLean) and Emily Sheehan (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newton) both earned perfect 4.00 GPAs in the spring, two of four in the league. Also making the Academic Honor Roll for the junior class was Lynn Brandon (Exton, Pa./Henderson), Lindsay Cartin (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), Nicole McCarthy (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield), Tara Michael (Owings, Md./South River) and Marisa Richter (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson).

Sophomores Rebecca Copeland (Webster, N.Y./Webster) and Raina Edelstein (Riva, Md./South River) make their first appearance on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. The entire freshman class made the honor roll with Laura Barnes (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis), Kathleen Finnegan (Arnold, Md./St. Mary’s), Moriah Linnell (Antrim, N.H./Contoocook Valley), Sara Mackintosh (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and Cara Sullivan (Nashua, N.H./Nashua) all earning a GPA above 3.20.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, recently completed its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball, and a regular-season title in men’s basketball.
