American Falls to James Madison, 37-16
Senior standout Hoffer remains undefeated in dual meets this season

HARRISONBURG, VA. -- The American wrestling team notched three wins against James Madison but could not overcome two pins and seven wins by Duke grapplers as the Eagles fell, 37-16, to JMU in Harrisonburg. American moves to 2-7 overall this season after the loss.

Senior standout Marc Hoffer continues to dominate in dual competition this year and sits with a 6-0 dual mark so far this season. Facing Jim Berringer of James Madison, Hoffer notched a 15-7 major decision to earn four team points. On Tuesday, Jan. 14, InterMat ranked Hoffer at No. 13 in the nation at 149 lbs.

Heavyweight Jared Hyman also recorded a win for the Eagles as well as his second pin on the year. He took down Chris Miller at the 3:46 mark, garnering six team points. Willie Harris also came away with a win by forfeit at 125.

For James Madison, sophomores Jeremy Rankin (174 lbs.) and Steve Kodish (197 lbs.) registered pins to highlight the Dukes' non-conference win. Junior 133-pounder Jon Huesdash picked up a technical fall at 133 lbs., while 184-pounder Dave Colabella and 165-pounder Seth Cameron each came away with major decisions.

The Eagles will travel to Piscacaway, N.J. this Saturday to take on Rutgers and Boston University in a tri-meet. They return home Wednesday, Jan. 23, to face Howard in Bender Arena starting at 7 p.m.
