Prepares for End-of-Season Tournament WASHINGTON -- The American University wrestling team is preparing for the Millersville Tournament next weekend, Sat. March 9, held in Millersville, Pa. This end-of-season tournament traditionally serves as a qualifying event for the NCAA Tournament. Participating teams include: American University, defending 2001 champion Millersville University, Slippery Rock University, Duquesne, Howard, and Delaware State. All top weight class finishers and two individual wild cards will advance to the Division I NCAA Tournament. Senior Marc Hoffer (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Central) recently competed in his last home meet as the most decorated wrestler in school history at a quad meet with Bucknell, Eastern Michigan, and the University of Virginia on Feb. 24. Hoffer finished the 2001-02 season as American's all-time career wins leader with 120 career wins. He had a 30-6 overall record (19-2 dual meet record) including nine pins. He sits at No. 16 in the nation as recently announced by Intermat. Hoffer
qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2001 and fell in the first round.
In 1999, he competed for the first time at the event and advanced to the
quarterfinals, the farthest an American wrestler has advanced in school
history.
