Pelligrino Selected as a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Finalist
Senior wrestler leads both on and off the mat

Matt Pelligrino has been named a finalist for the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship


WASHINGTON – American University wrestler Matt Pelligrino (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold) has been selected as a finalist for the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

The one-time, non-renewable grant is given annually to student-athletes who have completed their eligibility and have performed with distinction, in addition to standing out academically.

Exemplifying leadership qualities both on and off the mat, Pelligrino is the teams’ representative on the Student Athlete Advisory Board and as one of the members of the executive committee, he represents the voice of not only the wrestling team, but the entire student-athlete population.

Throughout his time on the team, Matt has continuously demonstrated a great work ethic and a positive attitude and as a captain in his final year, he compiled 11 wins, including two at the EIWA conference tournament.

Academically, he has also led the team with the highest cumulative grade point average at 3.43. A double major in Foreign Policy and Intelligence he has recently been accepted into the American University School of International Service Master’s program.

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee will make their final decision on the recipient on April 25, 2004.
