American University Wrestling Signs Top National Recruit
Abdurakhmanov to join the Eagles in the fall

AU Head Wrestling Coach Mark Cody signed one of the top recruits in the nation for the 2004-05 season.

WASHINGTON - American University Head Wrestling Coach Mark Cody will fill the 157-pound vacancy with one of the nations top recruits, Colby Community College transfer Muzaffar Abdurakhmanov.

Abdurakhmanov, a two-time junior college national champion, was named the National Junior College Wrestling Tournament Outstanding Wrestler in 2003 and will look to capture a national championship title and make an immediate impact for the program.

"He has a great arsenal of attacks on his feet," said Cody. "He comes to us with all of the tools it takes to be successful at this level. We expect him to make a major impact for our program immediately."

Originally from Uzbekistan, Abdurakhmanov speaks three languages and is planning to study international affairs.
