John Hanrahan Position: Assistant Coach Alma Mater: Penn State Experience: First Season

John Hanrahan was named an assistant wrestling coach at American University in October of 2002.

He brings with him a wide range of experience in all areas of athletics including marketing, training, administration and coaching. Hanrahan is currently president of PrivateTraining Inc. based in Los Angeles, New York and Washington D.C. which designs and implements fitness training services for corporations and private clientele. He has also served as a general manager and vice president of several sports clubs.

From 1989-92, Hanrahan was the head coach at Fordham University, handling both administrative and sport technical duties while producing a pair of Metropolitan Division champions. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Penn State for the 1982-83 season where he led practices, technical instruction, and physical conditioning and mental preparation. During his time, the Nittany Lions had a top-five finish in the NCAA Team Competition and decorated several NCAA champions.
Hanrahan is a member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association, the American Council on Exercise, a professional member of the NSCA and a NSPA, C.C.S. Certified Conditioning Specialist.

A graduate of Penn State University, he was a two-time NCAA All-American as he set the record for most career wins in the program. Hanrahan was a two-time EWL champion and a four-time placewinner. He was also NWCA East West All-Star Team Member.

Hanrahan currently resides in Herndon, Va.
