GMU Downs American 4-0 George Mason improves their record Oct. 27, 2000 FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason women's soccer team improved to 7-0 at home this season as Megan Hawkins (Burke, VA) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Patriots to a 4-0 win over CAA opponent American Friday afternoon at George Mason Stadium. Sarah Coughlin (Hawthorne, NY) made one save in 61 minutes and Naomi Hines (Olathe, KS) turned away two shots in 29 minutes for the shared shutout. It was Mason's sixth shutout win of the year. Katy Robertson (Atlanta, GA) added two assists on the day.
Robertson dribbled through three defenders in the box and laid the ball to Hawkins on the right side, where the midfielder shot into a wide open goal, giving the Patriots a 2-0 cushion at 26:04. Robertson fed Kerri Beck (York, PA) for her first collegiate goal at 57:27 on a similar play. She dribbled left in the box and passed the ball across the goal line where Beck slid and kicked it in. Carolyn Marin (Woodbridge, VA) netted the Patriots' final tally, taking an Eagle turnover and finding the back of the net.
