Sara Jagare leads team with 3.94 grade-point average

WASHINGTON - American University’s women’s soccer team placed 14 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll as announced by the league office. To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn a 3.2 grade-point average in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the seven League-sponsored fall championship sports. A total of 510 student-athletes, including 101 women’s soccer players, were named to the League’s Fall Academic Honor Roll, including 20 with 4.00 GPAs. The Fall Academic Honor Roll includes the sports of men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball.

Jagare was not the only Eagle to earn a second straight appearance on the Academic Team. Fellow sophomore Maha Elnabawi (Herndon, Va./Oakton) earned a 3.25 for the fall semester.

American went 10-9-2 in 2002, and made their first appearance in the NCAA's. The Eagles lost to Maryland by a goal in a heartbreaker, 1-0. They earned a spot in the tournament by defeating Colgate in the championship match of the Patriot League Championship Game 2-1.
