Strong Showing for AU Cross Country Meet
Stats | September 22, 2001 American's women placed third overall out of 13 teams, while the men placed fifth out of 13. Samia Akbar paced the American women with a ninth-place finish, covering the 5,000-meter course in 18:46.40. She was followed closely by teammate Jen Baclawski, who was just two seconds back in 10th place. Whitney McNees placed 29th (19:48.60), Jessica Daniel came in 38th (20:12.60), while Heidi Fishpaw placed 45th (20:20.40). Megan Simpson (21:02.00) and Leah Heinecke-Krumhus (21:13.90) closed out the American contingent. The Eagle men were paced once again by Frank Malpigli, who crossed the line in fourth place, covering the 8,000-meter course in 26:04.50. Sean O'Brien came in 18th with a time of 26:47.10. Carlos Hunt and Sean Duffy finished in 33rd and 34th position, respectively with times of 27:09.40 and 27:10.80. Chad Young placed 72nd (28:18.10) and Jose Morales finished 87th (28:46.70). American returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 29, when it competes in the George Washington Invitational held at Bull Run Park.
