Captures Two Patriot League Cross Country Awards
October 14, 2003 - Men's Stats - Women's Stats WASHINGTON – American University senior Matt Seymour (Rockville, Md./Magruder) and sophomore Keira Carlstrom (Oakton, Va./Oakton) were named Patriot League Runners of the Week Oct. 13 after their performances at the Maryland Invitational last weekend. Seymour receives this Men’s Runner of the Week award for the second time this season after leading the Eagles to a first-place team finish for the third straight year at the Maryland Invitational. He ran 24:19.67, crossing the line nearly 25 seconds in front of his competitor, John Bitok of Syracuse. Seymour’s time was over a minute faster than his time from last year, which gained him third place at the same meet. Carlstrom was named the Women’s Runner of the Week for the second time this season. The sophomore crossed the finish line for her second individual title of the season with a time of 17:37.42, beating her opponent, Maryland’s Allison Carney, by 19 seconds. Carlstrom ran 32 seconds faster at this meet than she did last year. After finishing first at the Maryland Invitational, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams are ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the United States Cross Country Coaches Association (USCCCA). The Eagles were ranked 6th in the pre-season rankings. The men’s and
women’s cross country squads compete again in the Patriot League
Championships at 11 a.m. November 1 in Easton, Pa.
