AU Cross Country Teams Finish Top-Ten at Mid-Atlantic Regionals
Men capture fourth place, women seventh

WASHINGTON - American University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams finished fourth and seventh, respectively, at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Saturday at Lock Haven, Pa.

Senior Matt Seymour (Rockville, Md./Magruder) took top honors for the Eagles, finishing 10th with a time of 30:53. Juniors Pat Macadie (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) and Sean Duffy (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) finished within 10 seconds of Seymour, in 12th and 15th place. Phillip Gaeta (Herndon, Va./Oakton) finished in 27th, Danny Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs/Furman) in 31st and Pat Burford (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with a 47th place finish.

Meanwhile, sophomore Keira Carlstrom (Oakton, Va./Oakton) captured the Eagles’ top finish, with a third-place showing, in a time of 20:08, just six seconds behind the top finisher. With her top-four finish, Carlstrom guaranteed herself a spot in the NCAA Championship meet at Waterloo, Iowa on Nov. 24.

In addition, freshman Kelley Taylor (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) took home 22nd place, with a time of 21:21, while Zaia Wharton (Elkins, W. Va./Elkins) ran the course in 22:23, finishing in 54th place. Whitney McNees (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) finished in 56th place, and junior Jessica Daniel (Wyncote, Pa./Cheltenham) finished in 124th place.
