American Men's Cross Country Wins Patriot League Championship
Eagles capture five of top eight spots

WASHINGTON- American University men’s cross country team captured five of the top eight spots to win its second consecutive Patriot League championship today at Lafayette.

As a team, the Eagles finished with 26 points, besting runner-up Navy by 24 points. Army finished third, with 79 points.

Junior Pat MacAdie (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxboro Regional) took home the Patriot League individual title in a time of 25:18.8, a personal best and 15 seconds quicker than the second-place finisher.

Senior David Seymour (Rockville, Md./Magruder) was the Eagles second finisher, capturing fourth in a time of 25:42.5. American’s Sean Duffy (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara), Phil Gaeta (Herndon, Va./Oakton) and Danny Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs/Furman) finished sixth through eighth, with times of 25:43.7, 25:44.8 and 25:45.4, respectively.

It is the second consecutive Patriot League title for the Eagles’ men’s cross country team. American last year defeated Army, which had won the 2000 and 2001 Patriot League titles.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, completed its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball, and a regular-season title in men’s basketball.
