Eleven Eagles Named to Patriot League Cross Country All-League Teams
Carlstrom, MacAdie honored as league Runners of the Meet

Sophomore Keira Carlstrom was named Patriot League Runner of the Meet.

WASHINGTON - The American University men’s and women’s cross country teams garnered a Patriot League-best 11 runners on the All-League teams, league officials announced today.

Runners in the Patriot League Championship race who finished in the top 10 were honored with a First Team All-League selection, while racers who finished between 11th place and 20th place were honored as members of the All-League Second Team.

Junior Patrick MacAdie (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) was named the 2003 Patriot League Runner of the Meet and to the First Team, by virtue of winning the league championship race in a time of 25:18.8, nearly 15 seconds than the next finisher.

Fellow Eagles Matt Seymour (Rockville, Md./Magruder), Sean Duffy (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara), Phil Gaeta (Herndon, Va./Oakton) and Danny Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs/Furman) joined MacAdie on the PL First Team, with fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth place finishes, respectively. Junior Pat Burford (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy), who finished in 15th place with a time of 26:01.6, earned a Second Team honor.

For the women, sophomore Keira Carlstrom (Oakton, Va./Oakton) finished first in the league championship meet with a time of 20:02.8, earning PL Runner of the Meet and First Team honors. American captured three other First Team honors, with Kelley Taylor (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) finishing second, Jen Baclawski (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) finishing third and Whitney McNees (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) finishing sixth. Zaia Wharton (Elkins, W. Va./Elkins) was named to the league’s Second Team because of her 18th-place finish.

Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams captured their second consecutive Patriot League championships last weekend. The teams next travel to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in Lock Haven, Pa., on Nov. 15.
