The mission of the American University Library is to serve as a gateway to information and to promote intellectual discovery for the American University community. Accordingly, the collection development policy aims to provide quality collections and user services that support the University goals for learning, teaching, and research as reflected in academic curricula and related research. Defining our collection development policy in terms of academic curricula, the Library collects materials in all formats in support of the five broad areas covered in General Education courses, traditional and multidisciplinary interpretations of subjects as presented in the curricula of teaching units; and faculty research as it evolves into curricular emphases, concentrations, and degrees programs offered within the teaching unit or school.
