The Department of Literature at American University offers both B.A. and graduate level programs, including an M.F.A. in Creative Writing and an M.A. in Literature.  Many occupations require skilled writers, and AU has made a strong effort to provide the opportunity for all students to take writing courses from the introductory level and beyond. Currently, the University employs a diverse faculty devoted solely to college writing and also requires the majority of freshman to take at least a full year of college writing in order to prepare them to articulate ideas, write research papers, and think creatively on a graduate level. The University also has a Writing Center, staffed by graduate students, in which students - both grads and undergrads work with the Center's specialists to write and revise papers.
