AU is committed to providing academic quality and excellence, hands-on learning, and to creating an environment that welcomes students from around the world who wish to make a difference in today's world. As such, AU offers talented international students the following scholarship opportunities: Undergraduate: AU awards a limited number of generous partial merit scholarships to academically-qualified incoming international first-year undergraduate students. For the fall 2007 academic year, scholarships ranged from $15,000-$25,000 per academic year. These funds are guaranteed for four years, based on successful continued academic performance. No additional application is required; all applicants are automatically considered for merit scholarships upon review of their admissions application. For international graduate students receiving Fulbright Scholarships: we are pleased to announce financial support of approximately $7,000/academic year for up to twelve incoming Fulbright students from around the world. Fulbright students may also be eligible to receive Graduate Merit awards and additional stipends. We advise you to look for sources of financial aid. U.S. government need-based aid is available only to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Please do not complete the financial aid forms on our Web site or in the paper application. International students are considered for academic scholarships after they apply. The scholarships are offered only to full-time students with excellent credentials who are admitted for the fall semester. Because there are so few scholarships, you must show financial support from your own or government sources in order to be issued a student visa if you are admitted. When you apply, you must send proof of financial ability to pay academic and living expenses. All financial documents must be dated within the last 3 months: --a bank statement on official bank letterhead and stamped or signed by a bank official indicating sufficient funds to cover the cost, or --an affidavit of support, submitted by a sponsor and accompanied by an official bank statement, or --a scholarship letter from a sponsoring organization indicating dates, amounts, and terms of sponsorship All paper or online applications must be accompanied by the U.S. $60 application fee. This may be a credit card payment, bank draft or money order made out to American University.
