Advising Appointments

a career advisor meeting with a student

Start building your career. Meet with your career advisor for help with your resume, interview preparation, or to build your networking skills. You can meet with your advisor in-person, over the phone, or over Skype. You can cancel your appointment online, but only if something really important comes up! Schedule your appointment online using AU CareerWeb or by calling the Career Center at (202) 885-1804.

Internship and Career Advising

As an undergraduate, graduate student, or alum within one year of graduation, you can tap into the expertise and guidance of a peer advisor or career advisor dedicated to your school.

Schedule your 30- or 50-minute session with your CAS, SIS, SOC, or SPA advisor online using AU CareerWeb or by calling the Career Center at (202) 885-1804, or stop by our Career Center Resource Library to meet with a peer advisor.

Merit Awards Advising

Nationally competitive, merit-based scholarships offer students and alumni the means to study abroad, fund graduate education, and gain high-level work experience.

Search our National Scholarship Directory for opportunities. Then schedule an appointment with a merit awards advisor to learn more and to compete for specific awards. Call 202-885-1854 to schedule an appointment.

Alumni Career Advising

If you graduated more than one year ago, you are invited to meet with our alumni career advisor, Anne Kirchgessner, for up to three 30-minute appointments at no charge. Anne works with American University SPA, CAS and SOC alumni. Kogod alumni, please make an appointment with Kogod Center for Career Development; SIS alumni should contact the SIS Office of Career Development.

Changing careers or finding work in a tight market can be challenging. Anne offers phone and in-person appointments each Wednesday from 3:30-8:00 pm. Schedule an appointment with AU CareerWeb or call 202-885-1804.
