Graduate School in Great Britain Info Session (Updated 10/23/13)
4:00 pm – 5:00 pm, Tuesday, October 29 (2013), Mary Graydon Room 247
Join us for a discussion of graduate study opportunities in Great Britain led by Tom McGlew of the University of Edinburgh. He will explain: how the current structures of graduate work in Britain have evolved in recent years; how 'taught' and research-focused masters degree programmes differ; what British universities look for in American applicants; how long it takes to complete a degree; how much graduate study costs in Britain; what possibilities exist for financial aid; and how to choose the program that is right for you.
In addition, he will discuss graduate study specifically at the University of Edinburgh, which is currently ranked as the sixth best university in Europe, and answer questions both about Edinburgh and the British system generally. Tom is an American who has made his academic career in Britain. Until recently he was Associate Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Chair of the Sociology Department at the University of Edinburgh.
An advisor from the Office of Merit Awards will be on hand to discuss potential funding opportunities. Interested students are invited to join us for this info session.
