Winter Break in New York, NY
The AU Career Center, Kogod School of Business, and School of Communication encourage students and recent alumni to explore career paths in marketing, advertising, public relations, journalism, television, and film. Join us in NYC and connect with AU alumni and other marketing and communications practitioners.
Who
Budding marketers, advertisers, publicists, PR practitioners, journalists, and producers are invited. Seventy-five slots are available for undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent alumni (Dec. '08 - Aug. '09) from SOC, KSB, CAS, SIS, and SPA.
What
Designed for career exploration and networking, this trip offers you exposure to industry trends, company cultures, and select career paths as well as access to AU alumni living and working in NYC. Though some site visit hosts may announce job and internship opportunities, not all companies are hiring. Most presenters focus on sharing their expertise and advice; if you are invited to apply for a position as a result of this trip, think of it as a bonus!
When
Arrive in NYC for an exciting kickoff on January 5th and visit up to three organizations per day on January 6th and 7th. Also network with AU alumni at an evening event on January 6th.
Where
Confirmed site visits include Apparition (new film distributor), Associated Press, CBS News, Consulate, Discovery Communications, Dow Jones Newswires, Estee Lauder, FOX News, GroupM, Guggenheim Museum, Ketchum, Live Nation, Madison Square Garden, MediaVest, MS&L, MWW Group, The New York Times, Nickelodeon, Ogilvy, Ross Stores, Sirius XM Radio, and Steve Madden. A few more sites will be announced soon.
How
Starting November 2nd, register online and pay $100; this fee covers your participation in an on-campus orientation, kickoff in NYC, and student-alumni network reception as well as inclusion in a resume book given to alumni and employers. You are responsible for your own travel and hotel arrangements.
Waiting List Policy
Space is available for 75 participants. Additional registrants will be placed on a waiting list. Wait-listed students and recent alumni must pay the $100 fee at the time of registration and will be fully refunded if space does not become available.
Cancellation Policy
Registered participants who need to cancel must notify the AU Career Center in writing. If you e-mail Bridget O'Connell to cancel before Thursday, Nov. 12 at 5:00 p.m., you will receive a partial refund of $50. If you cancel after Nov. 12, you will not receive a refund.
