While not required, internships are strongly recommended at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Graduate students have a choice between three options 1) a lengthy thesis, 2) two substantial research papers, or 3) one substantial research paper and an internship. For SIS graduates to officially register their internship for credit they should speak to their academic advisor.
