Introduction

Countries all over the world are racing each other to implement a local Silicon Valley.  With the Malaysian Corridor, not far from Thailand, the potential to share and exchange IT resources is a good one. However, in order to be able to attract their neighbors and other countries, Thailand recognized that they would have to likewise establish a National IT Center that would bring together the country's most innovative and intelligent IT developers and managers.  This was the main reason behind Thailand's Software Park. 

 

 

Software Park

The Software Park in Thailand was built in an effort to entice software development to Thailand. The Thai government is providing the infrastructure for software development that is initiated in this area at costs that are 20% below commercial prices. The Thai Government recognizes the need for the country to refine its own software industry and to advance it to an international level. The Software Park offers a variety of services to small and medium software enterprises. The Park will help new enterprises enter the market, and it will assist established enterprises improve their current capabilities.  Some of these services that the Software Park will offer, includes professional training, technical and computer network infrastructure, and marketing and information services.1

 

The six main objectives of the Software Project include the following2:    

  1. To create a national cluster of software related vendors and a software market center

  2. To become the central site for software industry infrastructure such as software tools, high-speed telecommunications, computer networks, etc.

  3. To be the center of consultation in technical production and marketing

  4. To be the center of continuing education and training in professional software engineering

  5. To raise Thailand's potential as the producer and developer of high quality software by focusing research and development of software production

  6. To prepare Thailand as an international center for software production, initially for domestic purposes, and eventually for export
