Welcome!
This website has been created for the Nations, Policy and Information Technology class for MBA students at the Kogod School of Business at the American University in Washington, D.C. Students have done research on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) on the country of their choice, and have created websites that contain this information. To view more websites, please go to the website for this class.

Analysis:
This website contains information on the Dominican Republic, a leader in the Telecommunications sector in Latin America and the Carribean, but one of the lower-ranking countries in many other areas of ICT. Although the Dominican Republic is heading in the right direction, the country is still at least 10 years behind many other countries in regards to technology. The vision of the government is to have many items in place by 2015 that have already been in place for many years in other countries, such as the United States. However, when comparing the Dominican Republic to other similar countries, such as Haiti and Jamaica, the Dominican Repubic is slightly ahead.
Tourism and agriculture are the main industries within the Dominican Republic, although a review of the country's webpage for their only Cyber Park makes it apparent that the country does aspire to be more. The location of the Dominican Republic, only a short plane ride from many other destinations with a strength in ICT, would make it a desirable place for ICT to grow. However, several weaknesses, such as the unreliability of internet access, unavailability of internet access, and lack of dependability on power, make it hard to choose the Dominican Republic as a place to produce technology.
Spanish is the language of choice in the Dominican Republic, and although employees in tourist destinations often speak English, the percentage of English-speaking residents outside of these areas is slim. Education in ICT is another area where the Dominican Republic is lacking, although education is a goal addressed in the country's vision for 2015.
The Dominican Republic is a country with ICT potential, but one may believe that the country is already so far behind other countries that is may be hard to catch up.
