Bolivia the Telecommunications Frontier |
|
|
IT Geographics Bolivia does not have a high-tech sector similar to Silicon Valley in the U.S. However, once the telecommunications industry completes its privatization efforts and opens its markets to competition in 2001, this is expected to change. The three most populous cities and the current leaders in Internet and cellular usage and access are La Paz, Santa Cruz, and Cochabamba. These cities have already become the leaders in IT with many of the companies residing in these cities already have a web site on the Internet. Bolivia's government is very open to new industries entering the country and has few regulatory hurdles new companies must go through to set up a business in Bolivia. The opening up of Bolivia's telecommunications market in 2001 offers a tremendous opportunity for a company to establish a presence in this growing and diverse Latin American country. |
