About The Netherlands


 The PC market is experiencing tremendous growth in the Netherlands.  The 1.6 million PC’s sold in 1998 is up 22% form 1997.  One third of all sales are currently going to the consumer market and in addition prices have dropped to 1,000 US dollars for a well equip PC.  Currently US manufacturers dominate the PC and Server market in the Netherlands.  Companies like Compaq, Dell, IBM and HP make up some of the US players in the Netherlands.  HP has its European headquarters in the Netherlands.  In terms of notebook computers Toshiba, Compaq, IBM, and Dell are the major players in the Netherlands.  In 1998, 190,000 notebooks were sold to businesses and 45,000 notebooks were sold for private use.[1] 

The largest Dutch hardware producer is Philips.  Philips is one of the worlds largest electronics companies.  Two of Philips many products are computer monitors, and digital receivers.  Digital receivers can be used across many types of architectures for Internet use and pay TV.  Philips reported 31.5 billion in sales in 1999 and is quoted on the NYSE under the symbol (PHG), London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam stock exchanges.[2]

            Tulip is the Dutch equivalent of the US computer company called Gateway.  Tulip is a build to order PC manufacturer and IT solutions provider.  The company has been listed on the Dutch stock exchange since 1984 under the symbol (AEX).   Tulip has its Dutch headquarters in Hertogenbosch and has sales offices in over 40 countries. [3]
