IT-related personnel in Greece was forced to leave the country due to either lack of job at home, or poor income, in relation to western Europe and the US. Nowadays, Greece looks capable of holding its young IT engineers and related personnel, due to increased workplaces. Their capacity is more than satisfactory.

The literacy rate in Greece is quite high. 95% of people over 15 can read and write; the vast majority of people who cannot are elderly people. More than 1,000,000 persons (about 10% of the population) hold a college degree (2001 est.). English is widely understood, while the majority of young Greeks can speak English at a fluent level.
There is an ever-growing confidence in the technical prowess and adequacy of background of the Greek IT labour force. Yet, until not so many years ago, the local market was not in real need of IT labor and therefore many graduates with IT-related degrees had to either leave for abroad or work in fields not related to IT at all. Right now a person with a degree in IT can expect to find a job within an average period of two months after graduation.
The National Technical University of Athens (N.T.U.A.), Greece's most prominent IT-related educational institution, awards some 300 degrees per year in  Electronics and Computer Engineering. In addition to this, virtually all students of the NTUA receive a fair background in IT.
Overall, the immigration trend in IT has reversed in the past years. An IT-related graduate is now sure to find a job with good income in Greece, whereas a few decades ago, there would be nowhere in the country that this person would find a good paying job (or, rather, a job at all).
