American University Symphony Orchestra: Heaven, Hell, and the World in Between

, Abramson Family Recital Hall

Updated 2/23/12

Saturday, March 3, at 8 p.m. Also Sunday, March 4, at 3 p.m.
Abramson Family Recital Hall, Katzen Arts Center
Tickets: $15 regular admission, $10 AU community and seniors

Join the AUSO as it delves into heaven, hell, and the world in between. The performance begins with the AUSO chamber orchestra performing Britten's "Soirees Musicales", an orchestral rendering of some of Rossini's most joyful “Sins from my Old Age.” The AU chamber chorus women and the full AUSO then explore the heavens with Christopher Theofanidis' "Rainbow Body" and its inspiration work, a celestial chant by Hildegard von Bingen. Finally, the world we currently inhabit comes into play with Antonin Dvorak's earthly Symphony No. 8, a piece with human emotion, elegant dances, regal fanfares, and even the occasional avian reference.
