"Signs of Life," is a new musical with book by Peter Ullian, lyrics by Len Schiff and music by Joel Derfner. Based on the true story of the Czech ghetto, Terezin, "Signs of Life" tells one of the most fascinating and least known stories of the Holocaust. Originally a military town, Hitler transformed it into a so-called "model city for the Jews" to house prominent European artists and musicians. In an attempt to deceive the International Red Cross and sway public opinion, the Nazis forced the inhabitants to "beautify" the ghetto. "Signs of Life" portrays their struggles as they grapple with the question, "When survival depends on hiding the truth, how does the truth survive"?
Admission is free, but reservations are required. There will be a post-performance talkback followed by a reception on Saturday evening; talkback with a Terezin survivor and US Holocaust Memorial Museum educator on Sunday afternoon.
